cultural probes

my cultural probe have been designed to give me an insight into various individuals lifestyles, thoughts, opinions and environment. i would like to enrich the participants relationship with the postal service and the human word. the participants are all different ages and from different backgrounds so i am hoping to get some receive fairly rich information.

the first part of the pack is a scroll. note all aspects have been designed to try and bring back the essence of past communication.

the scroll was sealed with wax.

this was the introduction to the pack, letting the participant know the title of my project and the invaluable impact their contribution may have on my thinking...
a list of statements followed which the participate indicated if true. it also wished the individual luck.

this informs the participant that i have provided a source of light to enhance their thinking.
this was based on the concept of having to write by candle light in the past.

each letter was personally addressed. the letters were written using nib and ink.

the following little book was hand made, all the writings created by typewriter.

each page asks a question or gives instructions for a little adventure.
i also included a business card to provide my email address.

i also included a photograph list.

i provided all the materials required in an envelope.

a stamped addressed post card was also part of the pack. it wished the user many happy returns of the day and asked them to describe their most vivid memory of writing.
i have sent out many packs, some of which travelling as far as florida and norway! exciting.
